Starting May 1st, our new artist of the month is Roxanne from Zen Yarn Garden. You will be able to find her yarns this month and this month only under our Artist of the Month section of the store.

Here is our interview with her:
1. What is your name, company name and which city and state are you from? Roxanne | Zen Yarn Garden | Ontario, Canada
2. How long have you been dying yarn?
Wow, I started in December of 2005 so that makes it just over a year, however, I have just started doing it full-time since January of 2007.
3. How did you get started?
Etsy.com really was my catalyst that got me started dyeing yarn. I saw all the fabulous colours and thought wow, I should try that too! I haven’t looked back.
4. What motivates you?
Colour motivates me. Every dye session it’s the colour that keeps me going. When the dyeing process is over and a beautiful skein of yarn lies before me in colours that really tantalize the senses, I can’t help myself – I go back to the dyepot each and every time!
5. What is the favorite product you’ve ever made?
That’d be my sock yarn kits – it’s fun to have yarn matching a sock yarn bag so it’s portable and an easy way to keep everything together while you’re knitting a pair of socks.I usually include a stitch marker and possibly some DPNs with it too to complete the package – fun for knitters on the go!
6. Do you have any advice for other fiber artists?
Sure, have fun and always enjoy the process! Get creative and appreciate your own work…it’s you that made those colours come alive!
7. Are there any designers, fiber artists or any other artist you consider your role model?
Sure, Felicia of Sweet Georgia. She is a fellow Canadian and her yarns were truly inspiring to look at when I first got started dyeing yarns.
Additionally, we asked that she share with us a zany or interesting thing about herself:
“I am about to finish my first pair of socks! Can you believe that? All this time dyeing sock yarns and I have yet to finish my first pair! I truly understand how people can love socks so much – what a fun project and what a huge array of options out there for patterns and for yarns!”
We also asked that she send us a picture of her, with or without yarn:
