I'm a new knitter, so I don't have much experience with lace knitting, but two of my favorite patterns are the Ishbel shawl (http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/ishbel) and the Montego Bay scarf (http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/montego-bay-scarf). I've had so much fun with those two patterns, I'm planning to make a Shetland Triangle (http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/shetland-triangle) next!

My favorite shawl right now is the Crown Prince Square Shawl from the Knitted Lace of Estonia book.

http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/crown-prince-square-shawl

I think it's totally breathtaking and I'd love to get up the courage to cast on for it.

My absolute favorite lace yarn is JaggerSpun Zephyr Wool-Silk 2/18. I love the stitch definition and the feel of it in my hands.

I hope this isn't a duplicate, my first attempt seems to have gotten lost. I haven't knit lace yet, but I find the pattern to be very attractive and tempting: Lacy Serpentine Scarf
HeartStrings knitting pattern #A62

http://www.heartstringsfiberarts.com/a62.shtm

Admittedly I have little exposure to laceweight yarn, but I think it would be hard to beat the Lost River Alpaca Laceweight.

This lovely pattern was designed especially for a particular yarn, and the blog related to the site says that just one skein should be enough to make not only this lovely Ivy Brambles Pure Silk Lacey Scarf Pattern:

http://www.ivybrambles.com/product_info.php?cPath=1039&products_id=13947

but also a pair of gloves or two from the matching pattern(s) also available there. They don't list the weight or yardage of their skeins however. For a favorite yarn, I'd go with any Lorna's Laces product.

Oh my, I need that Sea Silk to make another Montego Bay!

Montego Bay is my favorite one skein pattern. I've worn mine more than anything else I've made and it is a sure bet every time. It can dress up a T-shirt and jean jacket, but is classy enough to wrap around the neckline of a blouse paired with a skirt.

I've posted on my blog and included my favorite photo of my Montego Bay, please go over and take a look

Admittedly, Sea Silk has been my favorite lace yarn to work with...but Briar Rose Fibers Grace is right up there.

I have only recently started to knit lace and have only completed one shawl so far. Since I found it to be pretty and fun to knit, my suggestion would be the Shetland triangle. Here is my finished project:

I haven't knitted too many shawls yet. However, I have several one-skein shawls in mind. Knitters Magazine had an interesting pattern called Morning Glory: http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/morning-glory. It's a short capelet that requires 510 yards. Looks wearable over a coat I think. The picture in the magazine doesn't grab me--a little frilly thing over a summer top. But, I think it would be stunning over a winter coat.

I also posted a link to the contest on my blog. http://pencraftco.wordpress.com/2009/05/29/i-hate-pictureless-posts/

And finally, for my third entry, my favorite lace yarn. I have knitted a number of lace projects, although not so much on the shawl front. I buy a lot of lace yarn, and so far, my favorite has to be Zephyr. With the silk, it has a nice sheen, it knits up nicely, and it shows up patterns well.
