Welcome to our 4th of July, Freedom Blog Contest:
In honor of Independence Day, here in the US, we’d like to have a little contest. This contest will run on July 4, for 24 hours, starting at midnight. We’d like you to post in the comments your favorite quote about freedom, who it’s from and what it means to you. Every 4 hours (it is the 4th of July after all!) we’ll pick a winner out of the comments to win an extra special yarn prize. Donna will be posting her favorite quote at midnight, after that, we’ll be looking forward to reading your favorite quotes.
After your done posting your comment, stop by the shop and take advantage of our “Freedom to have the Stash You Want”, 4th of July Sale. Everything and anything that has Red, White and Blue will be 30% off. That’s patterns, needles, accessories and every other yarn with red, white or blue, all at 30% off!

We cannot defend freedom abroad by deserting it at home by Edward Murrow.
I think it speaks for itself. My grandfathers and father-in-law served in WW2 and I know the sacrifices that were made to keep this beloved country free. Freedom was never abandoned in this country while they fought abroad. Their purpose was to protect mankind and at the same time protect their loved ones at home.
Freedom should never be taken for granted.
Well apparently I can’t read directions correctly …lol Forgive my comment and feel free to delete it.
We hold in our hands, the most precious gift of all: Freedom. The freedom to express our art. Our love. The freedom to be who we want to be. We are not going to give that freedom away and no one shall take it from us!
Diane Frolov and Andrew Schneider, Northern Exposure, Cicely, 1992
This should be our battle cry!
Applies to every American no matter who they are…we have the freedom to be.
“Those who desire to give up freedom in order to gain security will not have, nor do they deserve, either one.” ~ Benjamin Franklin
I find it ironic that we continue to be faced with the same conflicts throughout hundreds of years. After 9/11, I thought about giving up a little freedom to sleep better at night. Not only would it be impossible to define how much would be ‘a little’, it would be one huge step backward from the sacrifice of those before us. With the right to freedom comes an obligation to preserve it for our children and ensure their future holds all possibilities that freedom represents.
“When liberty is taken away by force it can be restored by force. When it is relinquished voluntarily by default it can never be recovered.”
-Dorothy Thompson
Thompson’s words remind me that the freedom we enjoy today was won through struggle and force. We should celebrate this today and everyday and never take it for granted
Thought I had better repost since I could not read and follow direction either!

Applies to every American no matter who they are…we have the freedom to be. We should be bold enough to live by these words since others were not as fortunate and gave their lives.
In the USA, we sing this song proudly: God Bless The USA, by Lee Greenwood
“And I’m proud to be an American,
where at least I know I’m free.
And I wont forget the men who died,
who gave that right to me.
And I gladly stand up,
next to you and defend her still today.
‘Cause there ain’t no doubt I love this land,
God bless the USA.”
I find myself taking my freedom for granted nearly every day. I don’t live in fear for my life or my children’s lives like so many people in the world. I should be thanking God every day and praying for my country and it’s leaders that they make the right decisions so we can remain free. I should be praying daily for the men and women who are fighting and risking their lives for our country. Please remind me, God, to offer thanks and supplication for all these things each and every day.
“Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.”
Mahatma Ghandi
